We have had another good week at the races and it was really exciting to have a runner in a Grade 1 hurdle on Saturday at Chepstow with Mr Shady. He ran a very respectable race in top class company, the ground was pretty testing and not ideal conditions for him, but he put up a good performance finishing 6th. Ryan Mania rode him for the 2nd time and said he is a lovely horse and his owners are sure to have some fun with him during the season. Its a shame we aren't allowed at the races at the moment, hopefully this situation will soon change. The horse in front of him floored the 2nd last and it took him back a stride as he wasn't sure what to do over it, had he not checked there the jockey thought he would of finished 4th.
We have been pretty flat out this week and it was good to get off the mark for 2021 with The Good Ting winning her 2nd race and doing herself and her dam who we trained as well proud. The family has been good to us, her dam The Burnham Mare, won four races for us. She was small, tough and quirky but she had a massive heart. All the horses this week have ran well and we continue in good form, almost made it a double at Kempton on Wednesday as Woodview who travelled sweetly through the race came late but just found one to good finishing 2nd but only beaten 1/2 a length and was closing down on the winner with every stride. So True ran a nice race at Lingfield on Tuesday and looked like he might nick it, we stepped him up in trip and he might not just have seen it out but still very pleased with the run finishing 4th, Uther Pendragon also ran there, running another solid race and finishing 3rd closing them down at the end. We ran Fact or Fable at Chelmsford yesterday, he was drawn 10 of 10 which is such a bad draw its hard to overcome, he stayed on through some pretty awful kickback and finished 4th so still a pleasing run from him in the circumstances. So touch wood they all seem in good nick, so long may it continue as they say.
We haven't got many runners next week, the weather is pretty ropey and lots of jump meetings are being lost to either the very heavy rain or snow. Luckily we haven't had that complication just yet down in Lambourn but then it is to be expected at this time of year. Hope you all stay safe and well, with the vaccines now getting out to the most needy, was good to see this week volunteers from the village rallying around to organise emergency transport runs for the elderly to go and get their vaccinations. Hoping very soon we are back to some kind of normality. Things are tough for everybody but we just have to stick with it, abide by the rules and hope we turn a corner soon.
Hopefully we won't lose any racing at the weekend as it looks to be a good line up.
