Big day today with the Grand National taking place at Aintree, couple of Lambourn entries so hope they will run well and get round safely. Stan says he was lucky enough to ride in it twice, fell at the 3rd on his first ride and finished 9th on his 2nd ride. He said have a look back at the old Nationals, that is when the fences really TOOK SOME JUMPING but he said he may add that it was an occasion to remember, just getting around safely was feat in itself. Today he thinks the emphasis is on speed a bit more, but it is still the race all the Jockeys want to win.
Sad news to see Richard Johnson hanging up his race riding boots, but we would like to wish him luck in the next chapter of his life. He was definitely one of the best and was just unlucky McCoy was around on his patch, but he kept Tony up to his work!
We had our first two year olds run this week on Tuesday at Bath. Vaxholm showed up nicely early in the race he just got tired in the last 1/2 furlong and Ye Gud Thing stayed on well after a rough start where she took a hefty bump. In the end she was only beaten 3 lengths she's not overly big in height but she's certainly big in the heart department. Both will improve lots from their runs.
